The Arsenal Women Arsecast #1 – The Conti Cup Final

Welcome to a new series of podcasts which will be based around the Arsenal Women’s team.

In this first episode: Arsenal Women will bid to win the WSL Continental Tyres Cup for the 6th time in 8 seasons when they face Manchester City in the final at Bramall Lane on Saturday. This is a repeat of last year’s final, which the Gunners won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Vivianne Miedema.

Our Arsenal Women correspondent Tim Stillman @Stillberto looks ahead to that game with the help of Arsenal centre half Leah Williamson. Leah talks about Arsenal Women being ‘feared and respected’ again, Vivianne Miedema, the threat that City pose and she contemplates her 7th cup final as an Arsenal player before her 22nd birthday.

Leah also talks about growing up as an Arsenal fan, interrupting a family holiday in Cornwall when she was 9 so that she could be Arsenal’s mascot and about Petr Cech taking the women’s team out to dinner on Monday night.

Tim also provides a preview to give a bit of context and there is full information on how you can watch the game on Saturday at 12.15pm.

If you are a regular listener via iTunes, if you would be so kind as to leave a review/rating that would be greatly appreciated.

How to we get Andrew into the Arsenal hall of fame. You’re a legendary gunner in my eyes blogs, consistent form week in week out on and off the blog, the man blogs for the shirt. ❤

This is great. How many other clubs even have a single podcast dedicated solely to their women’s team? Top stuff.

I’m really looking forward to listening to this–great way to bring more attention to the women’s team and to inform folks like me who, through faults of my own, don’t know much about it.

Any folks from the US know if there’s a way to stream the Arsenal Women’s games? Def wanna see em play, plus I’m a fan of Kim Little from her Seattle Reign days.

Leah's Left Foot

Unfortunately not many WSL games are televised, although it’s improving.
A few games (inc. Satuurday’s final) are shown on BT Sport here in UK, a few on the BBC website and a few on WSL’s facebook page. Either way the internet is your friend, my friend. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for this, and hopefully this’ll become a long ongoing series. I feel that while modern football goes deeper and deeper into a business model in terms of operation and goals, the womens football certainly brings you back some of that raw realness that makes us love the game. I know that talking about how “special” the womens football is can sound a bit condescending, but I really do enjoy when I see them play and content like this will help encourage me (and hopefully others) to fuel that interest even further.

More of these please. I am keen to learn more about the women’s game.
