Jorginho: If we want to stay in the race, we need to focus

Jorginho has called on Arsenal to stay focused after Sunday’s 3-1 win over Liverpool put Mikel Arteta’s side back in the title race.

Having expended a lot of physical and emotional energy securing the three points taking photographs, the Italy international is keen his teammates don’t take their foot off the gas as we enter the business end of the season.

“Everyone is happy but now is the moment to stay focused and push even more, to go with the good momentum and try to win another game,” Jorginho told Arsenal.com.

The Gunners head to West Ham United on Sunday still smarting from consecutive defeats to David Moyes’ side earlier this campaign. The Hammers downed us 3-1 in the Carabao Cup in November and then snatched a 2-0 win at the Emirates that unsettled us prior to the winter break.

Last season’s trip to the London Stadium also proved painful with Arsenal surrendering a two-goal lead and two points at a crux moment in the run-in.

“It will be a really tough game. They play well there and it’s a hard place to go and win,” added the Italian.

“They showed already that it’s really hard, we’ve been there, and now it’s the moment for us to change things around in our way.

“I think we need to focus, as I always said, game by game. The Liverpool game is gone now and we need to focus on West Ham and the next one after that and the next one after that.

“If we want to stay in the race, we need to focus on each game and give everything we can in every single game.”

We suspect his manager will have the same message when he faces the press tomorrow afternoon. As things stand, Arsenal are two points behind leaders Liverpool and level with Manchester City who have a game in hand. They both play on Saturday.

I think Jorgi has forced his way into our strongest lineup against the top teams. He’s a winner and got the know-how. Think we’ll be seeing more of that Jorgi Declan partnership to control games against the elite. Will be interesting to see if he starts at West Ham though! Side note @Declan, beg you smash up your old club next game, all the Hammer fans I know gave me so much shit when they beat us last month or whenever it was. Need a MOM performance from you, so I can shove it right back at them please brother!… Read more »

Yes I am

I strongly believe that Declan Rice is the best player in the premier league.

He can seamlessly play 6, 8, single and double pivot. He makes every player around him better. His consistency is remarkable. Seriously, has he ever had a bad game for us?

He is never injured or even fatigued. He’s a sublime athlete. And he reads the game like a 33 year old.

He’s the best. I’m so proud we have him. I still can’t quite believe we have him.

He’s going to get a statue.

As an Arsenal fan, you’re not there to push for Kevin De Bruyne, Haaland, Salah and Rodri, I guess.

A Different George

Or even Martin Odegaard–more open play chances created than anyone else in Europe top five leagues.

KDB – injured too often
Haaland – predatory but can’t control and dictate games
Salah – winding down
Rodri – Rice can do everything he can and more

Bunch of bums. Dec is the boy.

Rodri has the biggest bum, I’ll grant you that.

No that’s Kyle Lowry

Just feel the love and go with the groove, Capt Killjoy!

Elneny. That smile… that damned smile. Might not show up in some Xg statistic, but it shows up in my heart <3

Mo doesn’t deserve a statue, but we should pay him to just stand outside for home games, just to welcome people with smiles, hugs, and high-fives. He could do that well into his 70s. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!! 😀

I vote they make Mo and Santi our super-ambassadors – carte blanche to smile wherever and whenever they deem fit… and with a chunky expense account to facilitate it!

Let MA stick with the winning midfield trio regardless of the opponent only in cases of injuries should he be tempted to change it. Last season the midfield of Partey. Granit.Ode played in our majority wins. Replicate this n we are good to go on the home stretch….

I get the feeling that, having all the experience but never a PL title, Jorgi will be an invaluable asset on and off the pitch in the next few months. You cannot fake that calm wisdom and presence – especially with the young team we have.
